Mr. Dennis R. “Den” “Denny” Lytle, 69, of Galesburg passed away peacefully at 12:55 pm Saturday, October 10, 2020 at his home.

Den was born September 5, 1951 in Galesburg the son of Richard D. and Betty (Bewley) Lytle. He married Peg Maupin in 1971 in Galesburg and later married Sharon Grabill in 1984.

Den is survived by his children, Jason D. (Sara) Lytle of Macomb, Illinois, Jen Effler of Melissa, Texas and Kristi (Kyle) Hunter of Mesa, Arizona; his mother, Betty Lytle of Galesburg; his brother, Barry “Tom” Lytle of Knoxville and six grandchildren, Tyler Stewart, Madilyn and Maddox Effler, Reed and Olivia Lytle, Harlan Hunter and one grandchild on the way. Den is preceded in death by his father, brother, Randy and his sister-in-law, Linda.

Den graduated from Galesburg High School in 1969 and began working for Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railroad in 1970. He continued his education completing courses through the railroad ultimately becoming an engineer.  Den was a member of the local Brotherhood of Locomotive union. He was an avid bowler participating on several bowling leagues and was a true outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. Den was a diehard Cub fan and a bandwagon Green Bay Packer fan. He enjoyed a good ride on his Harley and was quite the daredevil. In his younger years he had attended the Henderson Methodist Church. Den was an awesome dad and had a very generous heart.

Graveside services are scheduled for 1:00 pm Friday, October 16, 2020 in Henderson Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Knox County Humane Society. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
