Derek M. Arteaga, 27, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 10:23 a.m., Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at his home.
He was born on February 23, 1993 in Monmouth, IL, the son of Eric Shelton and Carrie Arteaga. Derek was raised and educated in Monmouth.
Derek worked at several fast-food restaurants in the Monmouth area. He was currently working at Pella in Macomb, IL. Derek loved to write and play music, he enjoyed playing the guitar. Derek loved to draw and to listen to music. Derek had a contagious laugh and always had a smile on his face. He was a giving person and would always help anyone in need; he saw the good in everyone. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family.
Surviving Derek is are his parents, Eric Shelton and Carrie Arteaga, both of Monmouth, IL; three brothers, Eric Shelton of Davenport, IA, Jordan Shelton of Indianapolis, IN, Kaleb Carlson of Monmouth, IL; three sisters, Kaeli Shelton of Monmouth, IL, Kelci Shelton of Monmouth, IL, Kyleigh Carlson of Davenport, IA; Maternal grandparents, Martin & Debra Arteaga of Monmouth, IL; paternal grandparents, Charles & Jeannie Shelton of Galesburg, IL; and special uncle, Eric Arteaga of Monmouth, IL. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his great grandparents.
A private family Funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, Monmouth, IL. Cremation rites will be accorded following the Mass. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, October 26, 2020 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL. Memorials can be made to the Derek Arteaga Memorial Fund.
