Earl R. Menke

Earl R. Menke, 87, of rural Carman, Illinois, passed away at 8:05 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2020 at Bickford Assisted Living in Burlington, Iowa.  He  was born on November 22, 1932 in  Williamstown, Missouri, the son of Berl and Mayme (Briscoe) Menke. On April 3, 1960 he married Eleanor Jean Bailey in Gladstone, Illinois. She preceded him in death on December 31, 2011.

Earl was a graduate of Dallas City High School. Following high school he served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He farmed all of his life in the Carman area. He was a member of the American Angus Association and the former Gladstone VFW. He was partial to International Harvester tractors.  His entire life was devoted to his family and farming.
Survivors include one daughter, Susan (Marvin) Roth of Carman, IL and one sister, Marian Plank of Knoxville, Illinois.  He  was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and one brother, Briscoe Menke.

There will be no formal visitation but friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday, October 26, 2020 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. A private family funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at Banks & Beals in Stronghurst with Steve Minkler officiating. Burial with Military Rites  will follow in the Carman Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in his memory.
