Cross Country
The Lincoln Trail Conference held its cross country championship meet at Kewanee Dunes Golf Course on Wednesday. Princeville is the 2020 boys team champ, while Ridgewood claimed the girls team title. On the girls side, Stark County was 2nd, Mercer County placed 3rd and United was 7th. Individually, Kennady Anderson from the Annawan/Wethersfield co-op crossed the finish line first. The top ten runners in each of the boys and girls events earn LTC All-Conference honors. United senior Bridget Brokaw garnered one of those spots with a 5th place time. Mercer County freshman Maddie Hoffman was 8th to get on the list, as well. Other United runners in the girls race included Makaela Robinson in 21st, Karragan Sperry in 37th, Laney Butler in 42nd and Madison Penn in 45th. In the boys race, behind Princeville in the team standings were Mercer County in 2nd and Ridgewood in 3rd. United did not have enough runners in the race to compete for the team title. Princeville’s Denver Hoerr was the individual conference champion. Mercer County’s Derek Coulter was 2nd. The lone United runner taking part was Ben McVey in 30th.
Swimming and Diving
The Monmouth-Roseville Titan girls swim team traveled to Peoria Richwoods High School for a meet that also included individual swimmer Liberty Miller from West Central. The hosts, Richwoods, and Champaign Centennial were also at the meet. Even with only six swimmers taking part from Monmouth-Roseville, the Titans only finished 18 points behind Richwoods and 14 points behind Centennial. The Titan’s Cally Tate won two events on the night, claiming the 200 yard freestyle and 100 yard backstroke. She also placed 2nd in the 100 freestyle. Tate’s teammate Addie Smith was also 2nd in the 100 breaststroke. West Central’s Liberty Miller earned a 4th place in the 200 IM and also picked up 5th place finishes in three other events.
