Mrs. M. Maxine McCarl, 99, of Galesburg, Illinois died 5:01 p.m. Friday, October 16, 2020 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg. 

She was born July 14, 1921 in Monmouth, Illinois to Clarence and Martha (Banta) Thomas.  She married Barton L. Montgomery August 22, 1941 in Kahoka, Missouri.  She later married Glenn G. Moore in December of 1951 in Monmouth.  He preceded her in death in 1971.  She then married Charles W. McCarl June 6, 1974 in Ontario, Illinois.  He preceded her in death October 6, 1991. 

Surviving is a son, Jimmy Lee (and Sue) Montgomery of Marquette, Nebraska, four grandchildren, Scott (and Lisa) Montgomery, Vickie (and Tony) Kieper, Lauri (and Paul Liess, and James (and Michelle) Montgomery, 15 great grandchildren, eleven great-great grandchildren, a niece Janet (and Hank) McLeran, and two great nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, and a sister and brother in law, Maybelle and Verne Aldridge. 

Maxine attended Monmouth High School.  While living in Monmouth, she worked for Western Stoneware and Formfit.  After moving to Galesburg, she worked for Kressge’s and McCalin’s Dime Store.  She later was a nurse’s aide at Galesburg Research Hospital for 20 years and retired in 1981.  She was a member of First Church of God in Galesburg and was involved in many activities including a leader of the “Prime Timers”.  She was a volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital, Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Cottage Corner, and Knox County Humane Society. 

Visitation will be 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2020 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel.  Funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the chapel. Due to guidelines associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing and facemasks will be required with limited seating.  The family request that casual attire be worn.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg.  Memorials may be made to First Church of God or Knox County Humane Society.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com
