Heading into Monday’s Peoria Richwoods IHSA Class 2A boys golf sectional tournament, the Macomb Bomber boys had split its four matches against the Quincy Notre Dame Raiders. QND had won the latest two meetings, taking the West Central Conference title and the regional championship tourneys. It was the Bombers that captured the tie-breaking meeting in the sectional championship on Monday. Macomb shot a team score of 314 to beat the Raiders by eight strokes at Kellogg Golf Course in Peoria.

Bloomington High School’s TJ Barger tied with Quincy Notre Dame senior Alex McCulla at 73 for the individual title, but McCulla would win the playoff between the two. It was McCulla’s last high school tournament in his illustrious career, a career that included a runner-up finish in the state finals in his junior year. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, a state finals will not be held this season. Macomb’s Braeden Duncan, also playing in his final high school event, placed 3rd with a 74. Also getting top-10 finishes for Macomb was Jack Lockard in 6th with a 78 and Connor Hamm in 7th with a 79.

Galesburg High School sophomore Jason Runbom carded an 84 to place 25th.
