Mathilde Maria Karolina (Schie) Miller of Galesburg, Illinois, was welcomed into heaven on October 17, 2020 and into the loving arms of her Daughter, Billie Marie Miller, Son, James Mikel Miller, Mama, Hedwig (Wolf) Schie, Papa, Karl Schie and her Sister, Gertrude (Schie) Shachtner.

Hilda or Hildy as she was called by many, leaves behind many broken hearts.  Daughter, Astrid Littlejohn (Goran Berglund) of San Diego, Granddaughters, Kimberly Blackbird Littlejohn (Travis Hearn) of Long Beach, Tiffany Marie Sandy (Bradley Sandy) of Galesburg and their son and Mathilde’s Great Grandson, Maximus James Sandy.

Mathilde was born on February 8, 1925 in Landshut, Germany.  She has relatives and a large extended family of friends both here in the United States and her beloved Germany.  She let people know if they were meaningful in her life and loved giving little gifts.  At age 95 she had many years of life experiences beginning in Germany and here in the United States and it was common to be told how much her life stories were enjoyed.  She was able to live independently until the last few weeks of her life because of so many who helped her in so many ways and she was so grateful to each of you for helping her live the life she cherished.  And, so are we, her family, so grateful to you for making her life a better life, a life with dignity.

Because of the Covid19 and Hilda’s wishes there will not be a memorial service but most important to her was to be remembered as a kind and generous woman and friend and her greatest regret was that she would not be able to see her great grandson, Max, grow.  She simply adored him and prior to her passing expressed that any memorial gifts be made as a contribution toward Max’s future educational needs. Gifts may be forwarded to, Watson-Thomas Funeral Home & Crematory, 1849 N. Seminary St., Galesburg, Il 61401.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com
