Mr. Paul F. Simpson, 83, of Galesburg, passed away suddenly at 6:21 pm Thursday, October 15, 2020 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Emergency Department.
Paul was born December 21, 1936 in Knoxville, Tennessee the son of John P. and Lennie (Scarbrough) Simpson. He married Irene Howell, he then married Phyllis Paraman. He later married Phyllis (Curtis) Erwin on December 12, 1970 in East Galesburg.
Paul is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Phyllis; his sons, Stephen (Pamela) Simpson of Calhoun, Tennessee, Richard (Tracy) Erwin of Glasford, Illinois, Daniel (Angela) Simpson of Keithsburg, Illinois; his daughters, Catherine (Paul) Mayer of Calhoun, Tennessee, Melody Mitchell of Springfield, Missouri; his brothers, Billy Simpson, State of Tennessee, Tom Simpson of Galesburg; his sister, Carol McCall of Abingdon, Illinois; nine grandchildren and three great grandsons and one great granddaughter. He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, George, Luther, Elden and Milton Simpson and two sisters, Johnie Harrison and Evelyn Nelson.
Paul worked in the meat processing department for the Oscar Mayer Plant for 34 years, retiring in 1996. He then worked for the Knox County Sheriff’s department as the maintenance director for ten years, retiring in 2010. He attended the Church of God of Prophecy in Abingdon and also the OASIS Church in East Galesburg. Paul liked to sit on his front porch and read his Bible and enjoyed fishing.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10 am Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at the Abingdon Cemetery with Rev. Sherman Jones officiating. Visitation will be 4:00-6:00 pm Monday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Due to guidelines associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing and facemasks will be required with limited seating. Memorials may be made to the family.
