Mrs. Waneta L. Asbury, 81, of Galesburg, Illinois died 12:45 a.m. Saturday, October 3, 2020, in Galesburg. 

She was born May 10, 1939 in Galesburg to Clarence W. and Myrtle F. (Peters) Hoppock.  She married Thomas L. Asbury August 19, 1972 in Rock Island, Illinois.  He preceded her in death July 31, 2010.

Surviving is a son, Jason (and Paula Kennedy) Asbury of Galesburg, a daughter, Katrina (and Stacy) Holland of Ashland City, Tennessee, and a sister, Dora Jean (and Chuck) Reason of Hardy, Arkansas.  She is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Galen “Wes” Wesley Hoppock, Bobby Hoppock, John Hoppock, and Jack Hoppock. 

Waneta graduated from Knoxville High School in 1957.  She was a secretary for Knox College, Galesburg Research Hospital, and Henry C. Hill Correctional Center.  She retired in 2001.  She was a member of AFSCME.  She loved to cook for her family and going out to eat. 

Cremation will be accorded.  A graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 8, 2020 at East Linwood Scattering Garden, Galesburg.  Rev. Mary Runge will officiate.  Memorials may be made to Guardian Angels Humane Society.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
