White Sox Announce Coaching Changes, Including Manager Rick Renteria

Share

The White Sox are searching for a new manager after parting ways with Rick Renteria.  Renteria’s departure comes after he guided the club to a 236-and-309 record over four seasons.  Chicago was 35-and-25 this season, reaching the playoffs for the first time since 2008.  The White Sox fell to the Oakland A’s in the wildcard round.  Several candidates have emerged to be the next manager, including A.J. Hinch, Alex Cora, Sandy Alomar Jr., and Tony La Russa.  General Manager Rick Hahn said former Sox manager Ozzie Guillen won’t be a candidate.  Guillen guided the team to their World Series title in 2005.

The White Sox are parting ways with longtime pitching coach Don Cooper.  He was the longest-tenured pitching coach in Major League Baseball, being named to the White Sox position in 2002.  Cooper had been with the organization since 1988.  He helped develop young hurlers like Mark Buehrle, Jon Garland, Chris Sale and even Lucas Giolito as part of the current rotation.
