Mr. Harold Wayne Steele, Jr., 77, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away at 8:29 am Thursday, November 19, 2020 At Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

Harold was born March 29, 1943 in Quincy, Illinois the son of Harold W. and Vera P. (Kesterson) Steele, Sr. He married Norma “June” Colwell on December 16, 1961 in Galesburg at the First Church of the Open Bible.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, June; his two sons, Ronald W. Steele of Gulfport, Mississippi and Rick E. Steele of Galesburg; two granddaughters, Larissa and Mria Morton; two nieces, Sherry Lasley and Tina Way and three nephews, Randy Gilbreath, Jeff Colwell and Chris Way. He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Susan, Haffner, Sandra Steele and Nancy Harrison and two nephews.

Harold worked for the Admiral/Maytag Corporation in the warehouse for thirty years and one day. After retirement he preceded to work for Lowes for three years in the gardening department and Costa Catholic School in maintenance for five years.  Harold graduated from Galesburg High School in 1961. He and June were members of the O.A.K.S Senior Center. Harold was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Galesburg Rifle Club. Harold enjoyed many outdoor activities, including gardening, hunting, fishing and riding his motorcycle. He had a love for woodworking. Harold and his family had traveled throughout most of the United States.

Visitation will be held 11:45am-12:45 pm Monday, November 23, 2020 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremations Galesburg Chapel with a graveside service to follow at 1:00 pm Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens with Pastor Mark Dexter officiating. Due to guidelines associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing and facemasks will be required for visitation. Those wishing to attend the funeral “virtually” may watch the live broadcast at 1 p.m. on the funeral home’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Hinchliff-Pearson-West-Funeral-Directors-and-Cremation-Services-160333664037824.
