Larry Jess McIlravy, 78 of Abingdon, passed away at 4:04 a.m. Thursday, November 26, 2020 at his home.

  He was born March 10, 1942 in Galesburg, the son of Robert P. and Dorothy L. (Kemmer) McIlravy.  He married Karen L. Conard on September 11, 1966 at the Coldbrook Christian Church.

  Larry is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Karen; two daughters, Sherry L. McIlravy of Galesburg and Tammy S. King of Denver, Colorado; twin grandsons, Jacob and Joseph King of Denver Colorado; one sister, Sandy (Vern) Glisan of Abingdon; and one brother, Fred P. McIlravy of Knoxville.

  He graduated from Knoxville High School in 1961.  He served in the US Navy for four years.  Larry worked as a coal miner near Victoria and Pinckneyville, Illinois and later worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation for 10 years, retiring in March of 2008.  He was a member and deacon of the Berwick Baptist Church.  He was a member of the Harry W. Philblad American Legion Post #749 in Knoxville.  He was a backyard mechanic and was a farmer at heart.  He was a huge family man and made nightly phone calls to his family and friends.  He enjoyed going out to area restaurants and seeing everyone.  He loved people.

  Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, private services with military rites will be held Monday, November 30, 2020 at the Mosher Cemetery in Warren County.  There will be no visitation.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

  Memorials may be made to the Berwick Baptist Church in care of Karen McIlravy, 604 Country Lane, Abingdon, IL 61410.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
