MC President Dr. Wyatt Delivers Veteran’s Day Address on Vietnam- M-R Students Debut Patriotic Music

The Annual Veteran’s Day program was held on the airwaves Wednesday as opposed to in-person at the VFW. Monmouth College President Dr. Clarence Wyatt delivered the keynote address on the American Involvement in the Vietnam War. Wyatt stressed to Veteran’s “Welcome Home”:

“And finally among the many tragedies of our involvement in Vietnam was the disrespect that was so long extended to those who served. While it took far too long, I believe that we have learned that it’s possible to hate war while honoring and supporting those who fight on our behalf no matter what our opinions are regarding a particular conflict. Mr. Ralph Whiteman shared with me recently the work that he did back in the mid- 1960’s while he was working in student life at Monmouth College. Some Monmouth students adopted a unit serving in Vietnam. They showed that respect and care even then. It is common for Vietnam Veterans to greet each other with “Welcome Home” in an effort to make amends for the welcome that they didn’t receive earlier. So for all of you Vietnam Veterans listening today, Thank you and Welcome Home.” Clarence Wyatt
