Myrtle L. Patterson, 81, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 9:15 a.m., Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at OSF St. Mary’s Medical Center, Galesburg, IL. 


She was born on June 12, 1939 in Abingdon, IL, the daughter of James Edward Ford and Lucille Minnie (Woodson) Bell.  Myrtle was raised and educated in Abingdon and graduated from Abingdon High School. 

Myrtle married Paul Patterson in Abingdon, IL in 1957; they later divorced. 

Myrtle worked at the Galesburg Research Hospital for over 30 years as a technician.  She later transferred to the Elgin Mental Health Center in Elgin, IL, until her retirement.  Myrtle enjoyed going fishing, traveling, sewing and gambling.  She liked to ride her Harley Davidson Motorcycle.  Most of all, she loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. 

Surviving Myrtle are her children, Valerie (Dan) Hale of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Cydney (Ed Wetterow) Patterson of Monmouth, IL; her grandchildren, Connie (Jeremy Cassiday) Simmons of Monmouth, IL, Tosha Patterson of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Christopher Patterson of Monmouth, IL, Joshawa Stoneking of Wataga, IL, Alantis Mortensen of Monmouth, IL, and Shaunnery Mortensen of Roseville, IL.  Also surviving are eleven great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, numerous family members, cousins, and several adoptive grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, a set of twin great grandsons, Grant & Joseph Simmons. 

Cremation rites have been accorded.  A private family service was conducted by her nephew, Keith Patterson.  Memorials can be made to the Myrtle L.
