Nicholas Clyde Dennis, 76, of Oneida, died at 1:23 a.m. Friday, November 6, 2020 at home.
Nick was born January 19, 1944 in Galesburg, the son of Dorance C. and Louise Anna (Nichols) Dennis. He married Kay Lee Barton on November 9, 1963 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Galesburg. Nick is survived by his wife, Kay; three sons, Todd (Vickie Weber) Dennis of Montgomery, John (Bonnie) Dennis and Scott (Heather) Dennis both of Oneida; and six grandchildren, Megan, Nicholas, Matthew, Emily, Isabella, and Cooper. Nick is also survived by one brother, Tim Dennis of Oneida; and two sisters, Lynda Dennis of Galesburg and Rebecca Girdler of Cotopaxi, CO. Including his parents, Nick was preceded in death by one brother, Daniel.
Nick was a dedicated Union Mason for 57 years, founding and operating Dennis Construction, Inc. He was also an excellent woodworker and craftsman, building his own home and completing the brick work on his son’s homes. He passed on his work ethic and abilities to his sons. Nick also enjoyed spending time outdoors working on his landscaping, and spending winters with friends in Florida. He was a life-long member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Wataga.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, November 9, 2020 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, face masks, social distancing, and limited occupancy will be enforced. A funeral mass will be at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Wataga. Father Deus-Dedit Byabato and Fr. Burns will officiate. Burial will be at Oneida Cemetery, Oneida. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to Hospice Compassus.
