Philip Lawrence Redington, 92, of Galesburg, died at 3:54 a.m. Thursday, November 26, 2020 at Seminary Manor, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born February 24, 1928 in Galesburg, the son of Philip and Estelle (Leahy) Redington.  Phil was raised and educated in Galesburg, graduating from Corpus Christi High School in 1946.  He served in the US Army and US Air Force earning the rank of Technical Sergeant. 

Phil married Norma Jeanne Bonesteel on July 28, 1952 in Galesburg.  She preceded him in death in December 2009. 

Phil worked for the Illinois Power Co. for 36 years, retiring in 1989.  He was a proud member of IBEW Local 51.

He was an Indian Guide Leader, Little League Coach, served on the Utility Employees Credit Union Board of Directors, was a charter member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, and spent countless hours volunteering his time and talents at Costa Catholic School.  Phil was a member of Father JO Hunt Knights of Columbus Council 556, Galesburg. Most of all he enjoyed his time with family and travelling the USA with Jean, including a pilgrimage to his heritage in Ireland. 

Surviving are his sons, Thomas (Marty) Redington of Hannibal, MO, Timothy (Doris) Redington of Durant, IA, and Todd (Kory) Redington of Galesburg; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and one great grandchild on the way.  Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by one great grandchild; and a daughter in law, Sheila (Barnes) Redington.

Phil was a devoted father; a lifelong fan of the Chicago White Sox, Notre Dame Football, and the Green Bay Packers. 

Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Galesburg, with the funeral mass following at 11 a.m.  Father Lee Brokaw will officiate.  Due to restrictions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, face masks, social distancing, and limited occupancy will be enforced.  Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Galesburg.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Memorials may be made to the Sheila Redington Scholarship Fund at Costa Catholic Academy.  Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com
