Rosalie M. Brownell, 76, of Monmouth, IL passed away at 8:25 pm, Thursday, November 19, 2020 at OSF Holy Family Medical Center, Monmouth.

Rosalie was born October 16, 1944 in Honolulu, HI, the daughter of Johannes H. and Rella (Finney) VanRaam.  She was raised and educated in St. Louis, MO, graduating from Normandy High School in 1962 and later Monmouth College with a BA in Education in 1966.

Rosalie taught English and Physical Education along with coaching track and volleyball at Monmouth High School. She later moved to Central Junior High School where she taught P.E. and was the Athletic Director before retiring after 30 years of service to the Monmouth School District

While at Monmouth College she was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority.  She was a member of the former Trinity Anglican Church in Monmouth, IL and was currently a member of the Grace Anglican Church in Galesburg, IL.  Rosalie also was active in the Episcopal Church Camp in Bloomington, IL.

Survivors include her daughter, Katie (Shawn) Gillen of, GA; her son, Joseph Colter Brownell of IL; and 3 grandchildren, Georgia Gillen, Lilla Gillen and Scarlett Gillen.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Graveside services will be 1:00 pm Friday, November 27, 2020 at Valhalla Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.  No visitation is planned.  Memorials may be given to the Rosalie M. Brownell Memorial Fund and sent to the funeral home.
