Savannah K. “Katie” Mahnesmith, 87, of Galesburg, died at 3:42 p.m. Sunday, November 8, 2020, at home surrounded by family.

She was born April 18, 1933, in Moberly, Missouri, the daughter of Chester and Florence (Wilson) Cooley.  She married Joseph R. Mahnesmith on February 21, 1953, in Knoxville.  He preceded her in death March 26, 1995.

She is survived by a son, Joseph L. Mahnesmith of Galesburg; two daughters, Kathleen J. (Ned) Owens of Abingdon and Debra L. Moore of Peoria; eight grandchildren, including a grandson who she was guardian to and raised, Joshua E. Marsh; 20 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a brother, Chester (Linda) Cooley of Moline; and two sisters, Bonnie Cordle of Henderson and Beatrice Roberts of Knoxville.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Brenda R. Marsh and Betty Jean Coleman; and a grandson.

Katie was a certified rehab aide at the Knox County Nursing Home for many years before retiring.  In her younger years, she enjoyed gardening.  She also enjoyed collecting various items, including jewelry, and “going to the boat”.  Katie and her sister, Bonnie, always enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles together.  She was of Christian faith.

Private family graveside services were held on Thursday, November 12, 2020, in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.  Pastor Mary Runge officiated.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Crime Victims Unit of the State of Illinois.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is honored to serve the family.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
