Area Basketball Fans Excited About a New Opportunity for Youth Basketball

The high school basketball season has currently been paused around the state of Illinois. There is no timetable set for when, or if, the high school basketball season will get underway. Monmouth Police Department Lt., Monmouth-Roseville School District board member and parent of a high school basketball player Joe Bratcher said he felt terrible for this year’s seniors about possibly not getting a chance to play in their final year of high school. With all five states surrounding Illinois either already playing, or have a scheduled date to start, Bratcher took the initiative to get information on how he could get area basketball players finally on the court, safely. He was excited to find out that there were opportunities on the Iowa side of the Quad Cities, namely Bettendorf. Bratcher researched the Beyond the Baseline organization in Davenport, which has been sponsoring competition since early in the fall. He sent out a few texts to current Monmouth-Roseville basketball players to gauge their interest in playing and received a plethora of positive responses. Weather permitting, the season gets underway on Wednesday, Dec. 30th. Bratcher stopped by the WRAM Morning Show to talk about the entire process.
