Betty Beth (Van Fleet) Farwell, 79, of Monmouth, IL, passed away on Monday, December 28, 2020 peacefully at home.

Beth was born on April 15, 1941 in Colchester, Illinois, the daughter of Woodrow and Virginia (Stoneking) Van Fleet.  Betty Beth was raised and educated in Colchester, Illinois and graduated from Colchester High School in 1959. 

She married Clyde Scott Farwell on December 30, 1958 in Colchester, Illinois. They setup their first home in Bedford, England as Clyde was stationed there in the Air Force.  She loved her time in England and spoke of it fondly for the rest of her life.

Beth was a loving mother, dedicated wife and doting grandmother.  During her life, she worked at Western Illinois University, Koke and Sparrow Appliance and helped manage Gibbi’s Hamburgers. Beth was a talented golfer and enjoyed so many things including sewing, jelly making, antiquing and trips with the love of her life, Clyde. Beth was known in the community for her sewing skills and making jelly for everyone in her family and the community.  Another of Beth’s favorite pastimes was spending time in the bleachers following her grandchildren at various activities and sporting events.  She truly loved to help others and spent time volunteering for the First United Methodist Church, the Red Cross, Monmouth Hospital mail delivery and the Park Board. She also spent time as a state level volleyball referee, loved to time track meets and keep statistics at basketball games.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Scott Farwell, three brothers, Larry Van Fleet, Ozzie Van Fleet, and Danny Van Fleet; and one grandson, Marc Achepohl

Surviving are three daughters, Michelle (Glen) Reyburn of Monmouth, Illinois, Tracy (Eric) Achepohl of Elmhurst, Illinois, Kassie (Chris) Wollbrink of Monmouth, IL: her grandchildren, Nicole (Tim) Hammond, Scott Haase, Erica Achepohl, Grace Achepohl, Elliott Achepohl, Michael Achepohl, Cody (Michelle) Crouse, Braeden (Trisha) Wollbrink, Jensen Wollbrink; one great granddaughter, Sydney Hammond; two sister-in-laws, Luella Van Fleet and Joyce Van Fleet, of Blandinsville, Illinois Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

A private family funeral service will be at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL.  Interment will be in Monmouth Cemetery, Monmouth, IL.  Open visitation hours will be 9:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m., Friday, January 1, 2021 at the funeral home, the family will not be present.  Memorials can be made to the Future Golfers Association at Gibson Woods and Monmouth Education Foundation/Home Economics Department.
