What are some important ways to keep your fresh-cut Christmas tree healthy during the holiday season? Mississippi State University Extension’s John Kushla explains:
“Whether you move it into the house or not, put the tree in water. You are going to want to cut about an inch off the base perpendicular to the stem of the tree. You will want to make sure the tree stand you have is a sufficient size for the tree that you have. You will want about a quart of water for every inch of diameter for the tree. You do not want to place the tree right next to a fireplace or heating vent or open window. I know a lot of people like to display their tree so neighbors can see it, but at the same time it is really not the best place for the tree because heat is going to dry that tree out faster.”
