Gov. Pritzker Says House Speaker Madigan’s Fate Now up to General Assembly

(Springfield, IL)  —  Governor J.B. Pritzker is backtracking on his call last month for Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan to answer press questions or resign.  Madigan has been implicated in a bribery scheme involving close associates and ComEd officials, but has denied any wrongdoing and has never been charged.  Pritzker now says he is disappointed that a special committee investigating the matter was dissolved and that it is now up to the General Assembly to decide Madigan’s fate as Speaker.  The election for the position is set to begin with the start of the legislative session on January 13th.
