Albert Franklin Davis

Albert Franklin Davis, the son of Lolis (Payton) Knight and James (Jernigan) Davis, was born in Tuskeegee, Alabama on December 20, 1955.  After a long-suffering illness, he passed this life on January 7, 2021.  The Lord lovingly called him home to eternal rest and peace.

‘Al’, ‘Berg’ or ‘Stein’, as he is affectionately known by his brothers, is preceded in passing by his mother and father, both maternal and fraternal grandparents, and a number of aunts, uncles, and other relatives.

If you ever spent time with Albert, you will remember his infectious smile and laugh that would light up a room.  He loved money!  You knew when you visited him, you had better bring money because he was going to ask “You got some money for me?”.  Albert, too, loved the Lord, and going to church being with Jesus was a big part of his life.  More importantly, Albert loved his family.  He enjoyed and cherished those moments when family would visit him and he could ask how everybody was doing or laugh with you or simply be comforted by your presence.

Albert leaves to mourn his passing four brothers: James A. Davis (Davenport, IA), Ronny R. Davis (Galesburg, IL); Michael A. Davis (Lisle, IL); and, Samuel L. Lockett, Jr. (Iowa City, IA).  In addition, Albert is loved and will be remembered by a host of aunts: Lerine Cummings (Lawrenceville, GA); Charlotte (Payton) Bell (Galesburg, IL); Pauline Littles (Georgiana, AL); Lou Ethel Payton (Georgiana, AL); and, Margaret Ann Payton (Georgiana, AL); and, uncles: Lomac Payton (Galesburg, IL); Sonny Nichols (Evergreen, AL); Willie J. Payton (Georgiana, AL); Robert L. Payton (Georgiana, AL); Arthur Payton (Georgiana, AL); and, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Albert suffered from a mental disability and spent most of his life in healthcare institutions and facilities.  We would be remiss if we did not mention those that befriended him during those stays from his friends, to agency and facility staff and health caregivers, he met along his life’s journey.  They, too, touched his life as they provided care for him.

While we are pained; we, are also mindful that the Lord’s will has been done.  Albert is at peace.  Never again to experience pain or anguish.  The Lord has sent Angels to take him to be with his beloved mother in that special and most holy of places, that heavenly home in the sky.  Albert’s bed has been made and his time is now!

Graveside services will be 12 p.m. Friday, January 15, 2021 at East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg.  Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, social distancing and face masks will be required.  Those wishing to process to the cemetery, please arrive at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, 1849 N. Seminary St., Galesburg. between 11:15 and 11:30 a.m. Friday.  Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com
