The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is offering scholarships to current and former youth in care. Scholarship recipients receive up to five consecutive years of tuition reimbursement, monthly grants and a medical card. DCFS’ Kim Peck says they want kids that have gone through the system to have all the tools they need to succeed.
“A lot of these students come from disadvantaged backgrounds, families who did not stress secondary education, or they may have been struggling academically due to unstable K-12 time periods. Just to receive this type of financial support and assistance to really try and push them towards that academic success is extremely beneficial.”
53 scholarships will be awarded this year. Those interested can apply online at: dcfs dot illinois dot gov. The deadline is March 31st.
