Gloria A. Smith Hamilton
Gloria A. Smith Hamilton, age 85, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at
6:35 AM on Sunday, January 10, 2021, at Courtyard Estates in Monmouth,
Illinois. She was born October 29, 1935, in Monmouth, Illinois, the
daughter of George and Edith (Hendricks) Nees. Gloria attended schools
in Monmouth and later attended and graduated from the Cottage Hospital
School of Nursing in Galesburg, IL attaining her nursing degree. On
December 18, 1955, she married Wilbur Smith in Monmouth, Illinois, and
he preceded her in death on January 20, 1978. Gloria married Robert
Hamilton of Stronghurst, IL on April 14, 1984, and he passed away in
2013. Gloria worked at several hospitals prior to the family returning
to settle in Monmouth in 1972, where she worked at CMH until her
retirement, also volunteered at CMH for several years after her
retirement. Gloria enjoyed traveling, quilting, relaxing at the family
cabin along the Mississippi River and mostly she deeply loved spending
time with her family and friends.
Gloria is survived by two daughters, Sherry (Tim) Smith of Groveland,
Florida and Lisa Smith of Monmouth, Illinois, one son, Gregory (Katrina)
Smith of Winchester, Virginia, five step-daughters, Linda (Ken) Brohman
of Monmouth, Karla (Ron) Todd of Ft. Madison IA, Lori (Tim) Hamilton of
Stronghurst, Sherri (Rick) Haley of Hannah City IL, and Rachael (Tony)
Gibb of Fountain Hill AZ. Also surviving are one sister, Georgia Narrow
of Ft. Collins, Colorado, and numerous grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and both
of her husbands.
Cremation is being accorded. A memorial service will be planned for a
later date. Memorials may be left to the American Cancer Society or a
