Governor J.B. Pritzker says the Illinois State Police are ready to handle any potential threats.  Pritzker declined to discuss specific safety measures at the Capitol yesterday, but security was increased last week after crowds stormed the U.S. Capitol. The FBI has issued a warning about plans for armed protests at all 50 state capitols ahead of President-Elect Biden’s inauguration.  Investigators say some of those behind the threats are members of extremist groups.

The state police is tracking possible events at the Illinois Capitol this weekend.

The FBI has issued warnings about potential armed protests at all 50 of the nation’s capitols. Governor JB Pritzker says he can’t discuss the specifics of security precautions being taken, but that the ISP is well aware of the situation.

“We have a great security team for the state consisting of all three agency heads, General Nealy and our National Guard Director Kelly at the State Police and General Tate Nado at our Emergency Management Agency. We really work very cohesively and have done a terrific job so far.”

The state police say they will work with local law enforcement and have all available resources at their disposal. The FBI says protests may be held in the days leading up to the inauguration of president elect Joe Biden.
