Objection filed against Mayoral candidate

Currently there are two names on the April 6th ballot for Mayor of Monmouth, but that might change. Mayor Rod Davies and former Warren County state’s attorney Albert “Chip” Algren have filed an objection over the candidacy of mayoral challenger Justin Lipes that alleges he is not a resident of Monmouth.
The objection alleges that Lipes cannot run for mayor because he does not live in the city limits of Monmouth, which is a requirement according to the election law in Illinois.
On his nominating petition, Lipes stated that he lives at a residence within the city limits, but the objection states property tax records show that property is owned by another party and there is no evidence it is a rental property.
Lipes is the only candidate that is challenging Davies, who is seeking a fifth term as mayor.
An objection filed by Ward 1 alderman candidate Court Hopkins against incumbent Justin Thomas will also be brought up today for an electoral board to hear. The objection refers to errors in the nominating petition.
