Peoria Man Charged with Burglary and Felony Murder Following Disturbance at Galesburg Guns and Ammo

On January 6, 2021, the Galesburg Police responded to Galesburg Guns and Ammo in reference to a disturbance there involving gun shots. When officers arrived, it was determined that several suspects had broken into the business.

The owner of the business was inside at the time of the break in. Preliminary investigation indicates that the owner of the business fired 4-5 shots at the suspects after they entered the gun shop.

A short time later, a vehicle pulled up to the emergency room at Cottage Hospital. A 17 year old male subject was dropped off at the front door with a gun shot wound. The other subjects in the vehicle immediately drove away. Hospital staff came out to provide medical aid to the 17 year old. The 17 year old later died from his injuries.

Further investigation from the Galesburg Police Department determined that the vehicle used in the commission of the burglary at Galesburg Guns belonged to Jakobe D Brown, age 18 from Peoria. Jokobe Brown and his vehicle was located in Peoria and brought to Galesburg. Jakobe Brown was arrested and charged with burglary and felony murder. He was processed in the Knox County Jail to await an appearance in court.

This investigation is ongoing at this time.
