Unbeaten and nationally ranked Morton proved to be too much for the Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team Thursday night, defeating the Chargers 72-36 in the CSC women’s home opener at John M. Lewis Gymnasium. Down 24-7 early in the second quarter, Sandburg (0-2) pulled back within seven behind a 10-0 run capped by back-to-back 3-pointers from freshman Emily Cash, a Farmington grad, to make it 24-17. A jumper by freshman Addison Eger got the Chargers within 26-19 later in the period, but the 14th-ranked Panthers (7-0) closed the half with six straight points and led by double digits the rest of the way. Sophomore Kelsi Legge, from Galesburg High School, led Sandburg with 10 points. Sophomore forward Annie McKim led all players with 13 rebounds.
UP NEXT FOR SANDBURG 6 p.m. March 4 at home vs. Highland.
