The method of delivery has changed over the years, but the scammers have been consistent. Most are trying to harvest your personal information if they aren’t tying to steal your money. The Better Business Bureau is issuing a warning about a text scam that says it’s offering Netflix for free.
It’s not true, but it can be tempting to click on the link. BBB investigator Don O’Brien says you shouldn’t believe every text you receive.
“Let’s say you are a Netflix user, A, why would you get something saying free Netflix for a year, but really look at the URL. Make sure that you are going to the right place. These folks do a really good job, these scammers, of kind of making the minds eye go weird in that they might have Netflix.com but maybe it has two t’s or two f’s in that URL that makes it seem like it is really Netflix.”
Even if you don’t fall for this scam, Netflix advises its customers to change their password if they’ve been targeted.
