Basketball
The United Red Storm boys and girls basketball teams were both in action last night. The Red Storm boys were at home, taking on a solid Knoxville Blue Bullet squad. Both teams were undefeated coming into the game and each had success on the floor last year, as well. United jumped all over the Blue Bullets right from the start, scoring the first basket of the game and leading from wire-to-wire. United went on a 12-0 run late in the first quarter and put up 25 points in the first eight minutes, leading 25-11 at the horn. The Red Storm kept the pedal to the metal and led 37-19 at the half. The Red Storm put another 25 points in the 3rd quarter and led the game 62-36 heading to the final period. The final was United 71, Knoxville 46. Cormaic and Declan Flynn led the way with 27 and 21 points, respectively. That’s their exact total from a win over West Central on Tuesday night. Jason Hise led Knoxville with 13 points. With the win, the Red Storm are (4-0), while Knoxville falls to (2-1).
The United Red Storm girls basketball team were on the road in Biggsville for a makeup date with the West Central Heat. New head coach for West Central, Jackson Kane, got his first varsity coaching win on Saturday against Ridgewood and after getting a 45-37 win over United last night, Kane and the Heat improve to (2-0). The Heat fall to (0-2). Leading the Heat in scoring was Mady Reed with 18 points. United got 15 points from Luci Kane to lead her team in scoring.
The Knoxville girls basketball team got back in the win column last night with a 57-29 victory over West Prairie at Knoxville High School.
Bowling
In high school bowling, the Galesburg Silver Streak girls hosted the West Central Heat at Abbe Lanes in Abindon on Wednesday. The Streaks beat the Heat 2404-1735. Galesburg’s Casey Folger led all bowlers in scoring for the match with a 3-game series of 612. Folger also had the high single game with a 236. Chole Day took second high series with a 531. Bindi Bailey led West Central with a 3-game series of 425. She also had the highest single game for West Central with a 154.
Junior High
The Monmouth-Roseville Titans opened their season at Mercer County. The 7th grade Titans fell to the Golden Eagles in 2 games, 25-6, 25-4. The 8th grade Titans lost in a 3 set battle 25-21, 15-25 and 25-15. The Titans will play ICS tomorrow at home in Roseville on Thursday, February 11.
