Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Feb. 11, 2021

Basketball

The PCSN was in Abingdon last night for the Monmouth-Roseville Titan girls basketball game against the A-Town Tornadoes. It was senior night for the Lady Tornadoes and lone senior Emma Ginther and her parents were recognized before the game began. A-Town would score the first five points of the game and ride that momentum to a 9-6 lead at the first quarter horn. Monmouth-Roseville senior Ryley Huston scored 18 points in her team’s opening night win over Macomb on Monday but suffered an ankle injury with five and half minutes left in the period. She would not return and the Titans would have to find scoring from another source. Sophomore Lexi Finnicum picked up some of the slack with a six point second quarter and it was Monmouth-Roseville leading at the half 21-16. The third quarter also saw no one getting more than a five point lead and A-Town came out hot to start the second half, regaining a 31-30 lead heading into the fourth quarter. The final period saw numerous ties and lead changes but at the end of the game, it was the Tornadoes remaining undefeated on the season with a 51-49 victory. Junior Ashley Jones led A-Town in scoring with 18 points and fellow junior Bailey Dickerson was also in double figures for the Tornadoes with ten points. Kelci Shelton and Mattie Gillen led Monmouth-Roseville with 17 and 13 points, respectively. A-Town, now (3-0) is back on the floor tonight with a rescheduled home game against Lewistown.

The West Central Heat girls were at West Prairie High High School. After only giving up eight first half points, the Heat improve to (3-0) by doubling up the Cyclones 42-21. Megan Schaley led a balanced scoring attack for West Central with 11 points. Brooklyn Welsh led all scorers for West Prairie with 15 points.

The Macomb Bomber girls basketball team got their first win of the season, beating West Hancock 36-31.

The West Central boys basketball team hosted West Prairie but fell 55-35. Brandon Olson and Mason Carnes scored in double figures for the Heat with 11 and 10 points. Braxton Dunn led West Prairie with 17 points.

Bowling

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls lost to Geneseo 2,315 to 2,652. Ellee Shinn had high game for Galesburg with a 196. Casey Folger had high series for the Streaks with a 552.

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville Jr. High basketball teams opened their season at Macomb. Macomb won the 7th grade game 37-17. Drew Carlson led Mon-Rose with 8 points. The 8th grade Titans fell to Macomb 42-26. Payton Thompson led the Titans with 11.

The Monmouth-Roseville Jr. High volleyball teams hosted ICS Thursday night. The 7th grade Titans fell to ICS 25-13, 25-12. The 8th grade Titans topped ICS in two sets 25-20 25-17. Leading the Titans was Tatianna Talivaa with 5 serving points, 2 kills and 4 digs. Brianna Woodard had 11 serving points, 3 kills, 2 blocks, and 6 digs. Mia Reynolds had 7 assists.
