Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Feb. 13, 2021

Basketball

The United Red Storm boys remained undefeated at (6-0) overall after earning two road wins. The Red Storm beat Mercer County 64-38 on Friday and Galva 72-36 on Saturday. Cormaic Flynn had 27 points and Declan Flynn had 26 in the Friday night win, while Delcan Flynn led the way with 14 points on Saturday. With both victories, United is (3-0) in Lincoln Trail Conference play.

The West Central Heat garnered their first win of the season on Friday night, getting a 60-50 win over Galva. Walker Conchas had 15 to lead West Central, with Jordan Roller chipping in with 14. West Central improves to (1-4) overall.

The Galesburg Silver Streak boys got a pair of Western Big Six Conference wins this weekend. The Streaks gutted out an 88-84 overtime win over Moline on Friday night. Eric Price had a double-double of 24 points and 12 rebounds for Galesburg. Price led the Streaks in scoring with 16 points in a 68-59 win over Geneseo on Saturday. Galesburg is both (3-0) overall and in the Western Big Six.

The Knoxville boys basketball team beat BPC 67-39 on Friday and Ridgewood, 78-54, on Saturday. The Blue Bullets are (4-1) on the season. Jason Hise led Knoxville with 24 points and ten rebounds on Friday. Hise also led the Blue Bullets on Saturday with another double-double of 22 point and ten rebounds. Evan Rossell helped Hise with 22 points and David Hise chipped in with 18 points.

The Abingdon-Avon boys basketball team suffered the only loss for our local boys this weekend, falling to Wethersfield in a heart-breaker 43-41 on Saturday. Easton Schisler led A-Town with 14 points.

The Macomb Bomber boys basketball team is still unbeaten for the year, after getting a 53-26 win over West Hancock on Friday and a 37-30 victory over Illini West on Saturday.

The United Red Storm girls basketball team fell to Mercer County 56-38 in Lincoln Trail Conference action on Friday night. Leading in scoring for United was Madison Penn with 12 points and Luci Kane with 9.

The West Central Heat girls are now (4-0) overall and (3-0) in the LTC after beating Galva 42-23 on Friday night. Mady Reed had 19 points to lead all scorers in the game for the Lady Heat.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado girls moved to (5-0) on the season after beating Lewistown 40-31 on Friday and Wethersfield 50-27 on Saturday. Brook Pieper had 14 to lead the Lady Tornadoes on Friday, while Emma Ginther A-Town with 17 on Saturday.

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls are (6-0) overall and (3-0) in the Western Big Six after garnering a pair of close wins on Friday and Saturday. The Silver Streaks Lily Hudgins had 16 to lead Galesburg to a 45-43 win on Friday. Lauren Livingston had 16 and Abby Davidson also had 16 points to go along with 11 rebounds on Saturday in a 56-52 win over Geneseo on Saturday.

The Macomb Bomber girls lost to Farmington 61-37 on Saturday afternoon.

Swimming and Diving

The Galesburg Silver Streak boys swimming and diving team participated in the Normal Community Iron Invite on Saturday. The Streaks placed 7th out of 8 schools. Getting top-five finishes for Galesburg was Karter Davison with a 4th place in the 1-meter dive and Ryne Sweesey earning a 5th place in the 100 yard butterfly race.

Junior High

In junior high boys basketball on Saturday, the United Red Storm swept a pair of games at Galva. The 7th grade Red Storm knocked off the Wildcats by a score of 54-30. Ian Leffler had 24 and Nolan Jenks had 12 to lead United. The United 8th grade won 37-26. Landon Hannam had 16 and Elliott Copeland had 11 to lead United.
