Basketball

The West Central Heat girls basketball team has gotten off to a great start under new head coach Jackson Kane. The undefeated Heat were on the road at ROWVA/Williamsfield for a Lincoln Trail Conference contest. The game was tight throughout, with West Central holding a 20-18 lead at the half. The lead was doubled to four points at the end of the third quarter at 29-25. West Central made just enough free throws in the fourth quarter to get a 44-41 win. The Heat shoot 8-for-12 from the charity stripe, including a 4-for-4 effort from Megan Schaley. Lily Bartels led a balanced scoring attack for West Central with 12 points. Mady Reed chipped in with 11 and Schaley added eight. The Heat are now (5-0) overall and (4-0) in the Lincoln Trail Conference.

Also last night, there was an important Lincoln Trail Conference boys basketball game between two of the preseason favorites to win the LTC regular season championship. The Wethersfield Flying Geese took on the Ridgewood Spartans. In a nip-and-tuck game that saw several lead changes, it was the Flying Geese getting a 62-60 win to remain unbeaten in league play at (3-0). They are (6-0) overall. In a big night for Wethersfield senior Coltin Quagliano. His bucket with 5.6 seconds left proved to be the winning points. Earlier in the night, Quagliano also moved into first place in Wethersfield history in total points with 2053. His total of 30 on the night, also moved him past former Annawan standout Tanner Carlson for the all-time leading scorer in Lincoln Trail Conference history. For Ridgewood Ganon Greenman had 26 points giving him 1497 for his career. He’s within 10 points of becoming Ridgewood’s leading all-time scorer. The all-time leader, Ganon’s older brother, Briar.

The Ridgewood Spartan girls basketball team beat Wethersfield 51-42 and are now (3-1) overall and (3-1) in the Lincoln Trail Conference.

Boys Swimming and Diving

The Galesburg Silver Streak boys swimming and diving team hosted United Township at Mustain Pool on the GHS campus. The Streaks dominate the dual meet, winning 128-57. Getting wins for Galesburg were Andrew Peterson in the 1 meter diving competition, Luke Foster in the 200 yard freestyle and 100 yard butterfly, Riley Stevenson in the 200 IM and 100 yard backstroke and Josh Lee in the 500 yard freestyle. Galesburg also swept all three relay events, as well.
