Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Feb. 4, 2021

Basketball

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls basketball team got their modified season off to a great start last night. The Streaks traveled to Bloomington Central Catholic to take on the Saints. Galesburg came away with a 52-38 victory. The Silver Streaks led 27-20 at the half and slowly stretched out the lead throughout the second half. Riley Jenkins led Galesburg with 15 points. Lauren Livingston was also in double figures for the Streaks with 12 points. Galesburg will get back on the floor on Friday at home against Mercer County. All Galesburg boys and girls basketball home games will take place at the Fieldhouse, as there will be construction going on at John Thiel Gymnasium.

Bowling

Also in action in Galesburg High School athletics was the Silver Streak girls bowling team. Galesburg hosted Rock Island at Abbe Lanes in Abingdon. Abbe Lanes will be the home of the Silver Streaks this season. The Rocks defeat the Streaks 2509-2437. Casey Folger had the high game and series for Galesburg with a 267 and 625, respectively. The Silver Streaks are scheduled to travel to Sterling this afternoon for a dual match, weather pending.

Junior High

The ICS Trojan junior high volleyball team opened their 2021 campaign last night in Stronghurst against West Central. The Trojans swept both the 7th and 8th grade matches. In the 7th grade match, ICS won in straight sets, 25-14, 25-19. Lily Mahoney had four kills, while Lilian Caldwell had four assists. The 8th grade Trojans also won in straight sets, 25-12, 25-18. Addison Gillen had four kills and ten service aces, Katie Flynn added three kills. Emrick Huston totaled six assists. ICS is back in action tonight, weather pending.
