Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Feb. 8, 2021

Basketball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan girls basketball team opened their season with a 66-31 home win over the Macomb Bombers last night. The Titans are coming off a (24-8) season last year and picked up right where they left off, outscoring the Bombers 23-8 in the first quarter. Seniors Ryley Huston and Kelci Shelton did most of the damage for Monmouth-Roseville with 11 and six points in the first 12 minutes, respectively. The Titans would stretch the lead out to 28 points at 42-14 by halftime, outscoring Macomb 19-6 in the second period. The Bombers began the third quarter with a renewed energy, scoring more points in the period, with 15, than in the entire first half. The Titans also scored 15 points in the 3rd to lead 57-29 heading into the final quarter. Shortly into the fourth, Monmouth-Roseville would take a 30 point lead, which turns into a running clock for the rest of the game. Shelton and Huston each scored 18 points to lead Monmouth-Roseville in scoring. Ainsley Holthaus had 11 points to lead Macomb, which drops to (0-2) on the season.

Junior High

The ICS Trojan junior high volleyball team hosted North Fulton in Monmouth last night. The Trojan 7th grade defeated North Fulton 25-3, 25-21. In the first set, Alivia Price served for 15 points, with Lilian Caldwell adding 4 aces. Caldwell and Charli Russell both had 1 kill for the night. In set 2, Clara Box led with 8 service points including 6 aces. The ICS 8th grade completed a sweep on the night for the Trojans, defeating North Fulton 25-23, 25-21. Addison Gillen led in service points with 10. Katie Flynn had 6 aces. Flynn led in kills, with 4. Rosie Flynn and Addison Gillen each added 3 kills apiece. Emrick Huston had 7 assists for the match. On defense, Ady Schisler hustled her way to 5 digs.
