M-R’s Central Intermediate Embraces Social Emotional Learning with Character Strong Curriculum

Share

Throughout the school year, Central Intermediate focuses on a character trait each month to go along with their character strong curriculum, with this month being kindness. Counselor Megan Thornton shares the curriculum has transitioned well during the pandemic:

“It is a curriculum that we use every morning in morning meeting. I have an amazing teaching team that has embraced it. It is about teaching that social emotional learning all the time not just from a school counselor, but from everyone in the building. That curriculum is really incorporating the hybrid model, where if kids are remote it’s great for the remote, along with in-person.”

It’s National Counselors Week. The theme for this year is School Counselors All in for All Students, which is to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems.
