Margaret A. Sandberg, 92, of Galesburg, died at 9:43 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at home with her sons by her side.

Margaret was born May 31, 1928, in Galesburg, the daughter of Leonard and Gertrude (Schaning) Weir.  She married Carl L. Sandberg on August 17, 1952 in Galesburg.  He preceded her in death December 15, 2019 after more than 67 years of marriage.

She is survived by two sons, John Sandberg and Tom Sandberg; two grandchildren, Lauren and Ryan; and a great grandson, Thatcher.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Andy Lundeen.

Margaret spent all of her life in Galesburg.  She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1946 and attended Knox College.  She worked as a secretary for District 205 for 20 years, retiring in 1990.

Margaret was a member of the First Christian Church in Galesburg and was active in church activities.  She was also a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority, Sorosis, and former member of the MG Chapter of the PEO. 

Cremation will be accorded.  Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.  A celebration of Margaret’s life will be planned for a later date when it will once again be safe to gather.  Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is honored to serve the family.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
