Galesburg, IL – Laney Chiaravalle (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) had 27 assists and 11 digs, but Sauk Valley handed the Carl Sandburg College volleyball team its first loss of the season Monday night, sweeping the Chargers 25-18, 25-23, 25-23 at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.

The Chargers (2-1) trailed 19-17 in the first set following a block from freshman Carley Reeves-Eakins (Branson, Mo./Reeds Spring), but Sauk Valley (5-3) won six of the next seven points to take the opening set.

Another block from Reeves-Eakins forged a 23-23 tie in the second as Sandburg rallied from a 16-12 deficit, but the Skyhawks again closed out the set by winning the next two points.

A tight third set featured 13 ties and five lead changes. Knotted at 22, Sauk Valley set up match point behind a Kiley Sanders kills and a Chargers hitting error. Sandburg staved off one match point with a block from Annie McKim (Yates City, Ill./home-schooled), but Sanders closed out the match with another kill.
