The IHSA Amends the “30 Foot Rule”; Jeremy Adolphson Updates on What That Means at Mon-Rose

On Friday, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) provided an update on the 30-foot social distance rule for high school indoor and outdoor sporting events. The IDPH stated that: “Sports organizers or venues should configure space to ensure there is at least 30 feet social distance between spectators and participants or, in the case 30 feet is not practicable for the venue, spectators are seated on the opposite side of the playing space from participants not actively engaged in play and at a distance of least 12 feet from the playing space itself.”

This is great news for older, smaller gymnasiums such as Monmouth-Roseville Junior and Senior High Schools. Mon-Rose AD Jeremy Adolphson gave an update on how the new guideline will work with events being hosted at Monmouth-Roseville High School.

The first use of the new guideline will be tonight as the Monmouth-Roseville Titan girls will host the Macomb Bombers for a West Central Conference North Division contest. The varsity game will be played first with a tip-off of 6:30. A couple quarters of JV basketball will be played following the completion of the varsity game. We will have that game on the PCSN with the pregame show hitting the air at 6:15. You can also listen to the game on our website at 977wmoi.com. The radio broadcast will be incorporated into the live stream that will be provided by Monmouth-Roseville High School. You can find that link at the school website at https://mrhs.mr238.org/.
