United School District to Return to Traditional In-Person Learning March 1st

Share

Beginning March 1st, the United School District will return to their traditional schedule of in-person learning from 8 am to 3 pm, with full remote still being an option. Superintendent Jeff Whitsitt explains the Board of Education’s decision:

“We are a little staggered among our four buildings, but I am just going to tell you you’re kids are going to run somewhere around an 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. schedule. That’s the typical schedule and will be like what we did before we got closed down last year. We are still obligated by state to make full remote an option. We are encouraging our kids to get back in. Basically that gives us a couple of weeks before our fourth quarter starts. If there is a disheartening thing about this, it’s the fact that the teachers have to teach all day long from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., which lessens the direct time they are going to have for those full remote kids. I think it is only fair to make sure that parents know that the remote product that United will be putting out from March 1st on is not going to be the same quality that it was. It is not a lack effort, it is not a lack knowledge, it is just a lack of time. Our time is going to be spent differently.”

For those that stay fully remote learning after March 1st, Whitsitt says the students will have to remain diligent and make sure to log on and pay attention. The students at the Junior High and High School level that choose to stay remote will log onto each class and participate from home.
