The Abingdon-Avon Tornado football team got its shortened season off to a nice start on Friday night, beating Lewistown 24-8 as football season opened up around the state this past weekend. Players and coaches are required to wear masks on the field and sidelines this season. There has been concern about the safety of players wearing a mask AND a mouth guard at the same time. I asked Tornado head coach Rick Quinn how things went for his masked-up players on Friday night.
Leighton Damewood scored a pair of rushing touchdowns and Easton Schisler passed for 100 yards in A-Town’s win over Lewistown. The Tornadoes host the Illini West Chargers on Friday night at Don Viar Field in Abingdon. The Chargers also got a win last Friday, beating South Fulton 50-6.
