The City of Galesburg Transit and VNA Community Services recently entered a partnership to provide transportation to qualifying seniors. A service contract between the two entities was approved at the February 15, 2021 City Council Meeting. VNA Community Services connects seniors, age 60 and older, with services including transportation for errands, groceries, and doctors visits. Through the service contract, City of Galesburg Transit will be the service provider for the transportation of VNA Community Services clients.

“The need for transportation for seniors in Knox County is significant,” said Ellen Larsen, Executive Director of the VNA. “Our organization does not have the resources to provide the need in our community, that makes this partnership with the City of Galesburg Transit crucial for our seniors.”

The City of Galesburg Transit provides fixed-route bus service and paratransit services for City of Galesburg citizens. Service contracts, such as the partnership with VNA, provide an additional avenue for connecting citizens with transit services.

“The City of Galesburg Transit staff is excited to partner with the VNA to provide a much-needed service to our county”, said Pamelyn Usher-Miller, Transit Manager for the City of Galesburg.

VNA Community Services provides services such as home-delivered meals, congregate meals (pre/post pandemic), senior health insurance counceling, benefits access/license reduction, warm neighbors/cool friends, transportation, and many others that allow seniors 60 years or older as well as eligible differently-abled citizens to coninue to thrive in their homes.
