Elsie Mae Newlan, age 97, of Lomax, Illinois, passed away at 12:17 a.m. Friday March 19, 2021 at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab in Stronghurst.  She was born September 23, 1923 in Gladstone, Illinois, the daughter of Algie and Maggie Lorena Bolander Polson. In 1940, she married Raymond Peterson.  They later divorced.  On June 29, 1968, she married James L. Newlan in Lomax.  He preceded her in death on January 6, 1995. Elsie was employed at Arnold’s Locker Plant in Stronghurst, Selby Meat Packing Plant in Burlington, Ross Manufacturing in Burlington, Raider Precast Concrete in Burlington, the Burlington Hospital, and most recently Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab in Stronghurst.  She was a member of the Absolute Life Ministries Church. Survivors include one son; Algie Peterson of Stronghurst,  one daughter; Shirley Reynolds of Marion, Kentucky, 10 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 39 great great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter; Charlotte Dighton, and two brothers; Harold and Theodore Polson. The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday March 23, 2021 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, Illinois. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home. WIU Grote Hall Fire

At 8:55 PM, Wednesday, January 15, 2025, the Macomb Fire Department was dispatched to a water flowalarm at Grote Hall, 720 W Adams St. on the campus of Western Illinois
