SIOUX FALLS, S.D – Doubling down on postseason recognition, Western Illinois’ Will Carius was named All-Summit League Second Team and Summit League All-Newcomer for his performance during the 2020-21 men’s basketball season.

“This is such a great honor for Will and our program,” said head coach Rob Jeter. “Will has worked extremely hard and overcame many obstacles to get to Western. From Division III to All-Summit, a big time accomplishment!”

The Bettendorf, Iowa, native has been a force on the offensive end.

He currently leads Western in scoring with 14.9 points per game and a 16.4 average in league play. During the Leathernecks’ five-game win streak, he steered the offense in four of the five contests, scoring 20-plus points in all four, including 27 versus Denver (Feb. 12).

Carius is one of the most accurate 3-pointer shooters in the Summit and has made at least three triples in 11 games this season, shooting 40.2 percent from beyond the arc. His 34-point outing against North Dakota (Jan. 29) ties for the ninth-most in Western’s Division I rankings. He also hit six straight treys against the Hawks to tie WIU’s single-game record.

In conference-only stats, Carius currently sits ninth in the Summit League in scoring (16.4 PPG), third in 3-point makes (35), sixth in made free throws (54), and eighth in minutes per game (33.1 MPG).

The league’s men’s and women’s basketball postseason list were announced Thursday (March 4), ahead of the Summit League Tournament in Sioux Falls. The No. 7 Leathernecks are scheduled to take on No. 2 South Dakota Saturday (March 6) at 8:45 p.m. The game will be streamed live on Midco Sports Plus and ESPN+.
