Last week Governor JB Pritzker was asked about when he might announce that he is or isn’t running for reelection – he brushed off the questions and said he’s just focused on guiding the state out the pandemic. He might be… but three days before that he personally deposited $35 million into an account for his reelection campaign.
This week Pritzker says he’s still focused on his day to day activities but wants to be prepared to counter any argument that might come against his priorities.
“Any of that, the support for my committee is really designed as a preventative measure in the event that Republicans continue in any more public way to try and attack the Democratic agenda of standing up for working people or to frankly lie about the Democratic agenda. We are doing what is right for people all across the state of Illinois, making sure that working families get what they need to stay in their homes, to get jobs, to raise their wages, etc.”
Even without declaring as a candidate, Pritzker has no announced primary opponent and he personally spent $171 million to win the election against another wealthy politician Republican Bruce Rauner.
