Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for March 1, 2021

Basketball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan girls basketball team continued their winning ways last night in Macomb. The Titans sweep the 2-game series against the Lady Bombers, getting a 59-27. Macomb only trailed 18-12 and 31-23 at the half, but could only muster four total points in the second half. Monmouth-Roseville outscored the Bombers 22-0 in the 3rd quarter, forcing a mercy-rule running clock in the fourth quarter. Junior Belle Thompson led Monmouth-Roseville in scoring with 20 points. Senior Ryley Huston was also in double figures for the Titans with 14. Ainsley Holthaus led Macomb with 11. With the win, Monmouth-Roseville is now (7-1) overall. Macomb slips to (3-6).

Also continuing their winning ways last night was the United Red Storm boys basketball team. United was scheduled to play Lewistown last night but that game was replaced with a non-conference match up with Lincoln Trail Conference foe, Stark County. The Red Storm dominated the first half, leading 39-15 at the halftime break. United would keep the pressure on in the second half, going on for a 63-30 win. Declan Flynn led United in scoring with 22, while Declan’s younger brother Cormaic chipped in with 13. Aiden Parkins was also in double figures for the Red Storm with 10. United improves to (12-1) with the win.

The Macomb Bombers boys remained undefeated on the season with a narrow, 34-33 win over Camp Point Central. The Bombers are (10-0).

Back to girls high school basketball, the Abingdon-Avon Tornadoes fell to Farmington on the road 43-37.

It was Knoxville over North Fulton 50-33.

Bowling

In high school bowling, the Galesburg Silver Streaks beat West Central 2312 to 1486 at Tombstone Bowl in Monmouth. Galesburg’s Chloe Day rolled the overall high game of the match with a 234. She also had high series with a 565. Bindi Bailey had a 471 series for West Central.

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville Jr. High basketball teams traveled to Mercer County Monday night. The 7th grade Titans came up short 33-24 against the Golden Eagles. Titan Scorers: Landyn Angelo 11, Drew Carlson 8. The 8th grade Titans earned a split on the night for Monmouth-Roseville, beating the Golden Eagles 46-28. Titan Scorers: Junior Avendano 11, Martwan Butler 9, Payton Thompson 9.

The Monmouth-Roseville Jr. High volleyball teams hosted Mercer County Monday night. The 7th grade Titans fell to the Golden Eagles in three sets. The 8th grade Titans came up short in two close sets, 25-23 27-25. Leading the stats for Monmouth-Roseville were Brianna Woodard with 5 kills, 5 digs, 5 serving points. Molly McVey with 11 serving points and 3 digs. Summer Daniels had 7 serving points.
