Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for March 11, 2021

Basketball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys basketball team ended their 2021 season by hosting the Class 2A state-ranked Macomb Bombers on Thursday night. The Titans got out to a great start, especially on the defensive end, leading 11-3 at the end of the first quarter and 17-14 at the half. Macomb would close the gap to two points at 29-27 heading to the 4th quarter. The Bombers would outscore Monmouth-Roseville 22-11 in the final eight minutes and get a 49-40 victory. In that final period, Macomb would go 12-for-12 at the free throw line. They would shoot 21-for-22 for the game from the charity stripe in the entire game. Monmouth-Roseville ends the season at (2-9), while Macomb finishes their season at (14-0). Titan senior Quincy Talivaa led the Titans in scoring with 11 points. It was Talivaa’s first game action since fracturing his wrist in the season opening game on February 10th. Tyler Bickers led Macomb with 15. It was the final game in the career of Titan head coach Chuck Grant. He ends a 28 year, IBCA Hall of Fame career with 461 wins.

It was Ridgewood beating Bushnell-Prairie City 71-70. Ganon Greenman led all scorers in the game with 25 points for Ridgewood.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado girls basketball team also ended their season last night, beating West Prairie 64-25. The Tornadoes finish (11-3). Brook Pieper led A-Town with 20 points.

The Knoxville Blue Bullet girls basketball team was beaten by Brimfield 70-28. Brimfield ends the year undefeated at (16-0). Knoxville finishes (9-7).

The Macomb girls basketball team lost to Camp Point Central/Southeastern 56-29.

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville Jr. High basketball teams swept Knoxville Thursday night in the Titan’s season finale. The 7th grade Titans won 27-26. Drew Carlson led Monmouth-Roseville with 10 points. The 8th grade Titans won 49-34 over the Blue Bullets. Ethan Clark had 14 to lead the Titans.

The ICS 7th grade basketball team ended their season undefeated at (9-0) after beating United 41-33. Andrew Way had 14 to lead ICS. Nick Huston and Elijah Noel were also in double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively. United wins the 8th grade game 31-24. Steven Gibbs led ICS with 10 points.
