Macomb names transitional police chief

The Macomb City Council recently announced the hiring of a new transitional police chief. Current Police Chief Curt Barker will retire on May 3rd, and has served as a member of the Macomb Police Department for over 27 years, 12 of those years as Chief.
The city council approved the appointment of Jerel Jones to the position of Transitional Police Chief. Jones’ salary in the position will be $85,439.39 and will stay the same when he is sworn in as Police Chief in the May City Council meeting following Barker’s retirement.
Jones was most recently a Lieutenant in the McDonough County Sheriff’s Department. Lt. Jones has a nearly 15-year record of distinguished and varied law enforcement experience. Jones was a sworn police officer with the Western Illinois University Office of Public Safety, where he served in both the Patrol and Investigations divisions. He then served in a supervisory position as a Lieutenant with the Bradley University Police Department, in Peoria, where he was in command of Shift Operations and Community Policing.
