Marc E. “Cookie” Cookson 52 of Macomb, formerly of Galesburg, passed away Sunday Feb 21, 2021, at home surrounded by family after a two-year battle with cancer.

He was born March 8, 1968 the son of Roy H. and Marla L (Adair) Cookson in Macomb.

He is survived by his mother, Marla Shinn of Macomb; his step father, Duwayne Shinn of Galesburg; two sons, Zachary (Tiffany) Zeisler of Macomb and Matthew Nelson of Galesburg; one daughter, Ambir Cookson of Brighton, Iowa; three grandchildren, Haiden Evans, Logan Lowe, and Zoe Zeisler; one brother, John Shinn of Macomb; one sister, Rene (Daryl) Ford of Bushnell; his maternal grandfather, John C. Adair of Macomb; one half-brother, Christopher (Debbie) Cookson of Hooker, Oklahoma; six half-sisters, Kathleen (Sean) Bickford of Billings, Montana, Cheyanna (Jay) Baker of Stillwell, Oklahoma, Kelly Cookson of Brighton, Colorado, Jeanne Cookson of Galesburg, Virginia (Justin) Kauffman of Hooker, Oklahoma, and Jodi (Ryan) Lindsay of Round Rock, Texas; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, including his nephews, Shane and Camden Shinn, who he supported at their sporting and Boy Scout events. 

He was preceded in death by his father; one brother, David Shinn; maternal grandmother, Betty L. (Young) Adair; and his paternal grandparents, Virgil H. and Kathleen (Tyler) Cookson.

Marc attended Galesburg schools and graduated from Hamilton Technical College.  He was a CNC Machinist working at Caterpillar, Komatsu, Midwest Control Products in Bushnell, and most recently at Methode in Carthage, where he specialized in testing vehicle electronics.

Marc was a sports enthusiast, playing football while in school, umpiring little league, playing darts, shooting pool, golfing, and bowling.  He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.  He also enjoyed cooking and grilling for his family and spending time with friends and family.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel.  Due to guidelines associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing and facemasks will be required with limited occupancy.  Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2021, at the chapel.  Those wishing to attend the funeral “virtually” may watch the service on the funeral home’s Facebook page at 1:30 p.m. at https://www.facebook.com/Hinchliff-Pearson-West-Funeral-Directors-and-Cremation-Services-160333664037824.  Cremation will be accorded following the funeral service.  Memorial contributions may be made to the family to establish a memorial fund to benefit youth sports.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
